PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Requirements for a Student Visa:
No visa is required for EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland passport holders to enter Greece for study purposes. However, applicants from countries outside the Schengen zone will need a student visa. For more information, visit the website linked here. Please note that the time required to obtain a student visa may vary by country. Therefore, we encourage applicants from non-Schengen countries to contact the Greek embassy in their home country as soon as possible for information on the application process and the estimated processing time. A list of required documents can be found here.
We will give priority to processing complete applications from non-Schengen countries, so we strongly encourage applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. They will then be able, after being accepted, to apply for a visa in time.

Public Transportation:
All students are eligible to use all forms of public transportation in Athens (including the metro) at a reduced cost of 0.60 € per ride.

Student Club meals:
Enrolled students are entitled to two meals per day at the student restaurant located in the Philosophy School Building on the university campus. The current price is 3 € per day for two meals.

University Club:
A wide range of cultural, sports, and welfare activities are available and listed here.

The Students Assistance Fund provides moral and material support to students facing adversity and at risk of interrupting their studies.

The Accessibility Unit for Students with Disabilities is a service that aims to adapt to the specific needs of each disabled student. It makes sure they have access to all university buildings, transportation from their home to classes, free access to specialized software, suitable textbooks, a student volunteer service, and psychological support, whenever needed.

Further information for international students on practical matters, advice for living in Athens, and more is available at the  International Student Support Unit. If you have a specific question, you can contact an ISSU officer directly at https://issu.uoa.gr/contact_us/.
